when your mum loves money more than anything

My mum is on the verge on declaring me bankrupt. She has kindly dug out all the credit card bills and demanded that I settle them without eating into my bank reserves. Her 3 options are

1) Transfer every single cent remaining in my account to her so that I have no $$ to spend. I still have to return her the credit card money =(
2) Survive on $50 a MONTH until I settle my debts. She has obviously been stuck in her office for too long. She still thinks it's 10 years ago.
3) Rob, borrow whatever and juz dig out $XXXX.

So from now on, friends who love me shall only ask me out to lunch/dinner at hawker centres. Only eat free dinners at home and no more suppers. The obvious goes to shopping. I shall juz bury myself in dull literature readings.

I need a sugar daddy =)

phelps vs bolt

As much as I'm crazy and delighted over Michael Phelp's 8 gold victory, I'm also very much blown away by Usain Bolt. It's true that no one has ever won 8 gold medals at a single Olympics Game, not to mention 7 WR and 1 OR. But how tough is it to break the WR for both 100m and 200m sprint? Prior to this games, Phelps held 4 of the 5 WR for the individual events and the one he missed, he still failed to break but he still won it with an OR. The remaining 3 relay medals were contributions from his team and not his sole effort. Yes Bolt entered with also 100m WR under his belt but 200m WR? Michael Johnson was a legend of his time and his 200m WR of 19.32 sec was way faster than Bolt's PB of 19.6+ sec. For Bolt to break a 12 year WR is almost impossible.

And for Jacques Rogge to say that Bolt is a showboat and lacks sportmanship etc, BOO! to him. How many people were glued to their TV juz to watch his race? Obviously they LOVE him =)

dulls of year 4

A night out with everything except SCHOOL =) Top it with nice food, good company and OLYMPICS. I actually feel that a semester apart actually brought us closer together.

We shall wait for Jess's ULTIMATE plan of uniting the whole of BIE to materialize. I'm happy as of now.

a shoes affair

Sprinting in heels (min. 9cm) and the winner gets S$2800. Russians and their shoes.

How many shades of brown shoes does a guy need?

Enough is never enough. My mum used to nag on the number of shoes I own. Now she simply wears them.

determination

Guess which athlete did this at the Olympics and broke the World Record?

Saturday, 16 August 2008

greatest races of all

If you're not really into the Olympics, there are 2 MUST WATCH races which everyone will be talking about. One reflects how much the tiniest difference matters while the other shows pure dominance. Both are legends in their arena. I don't think there have been that many WR broken in any of the past games. Incredible =) Comparing how SG is willing to pay their athletes S$1.5 million for 1 gold medal whereas US is only paying Phelps US$1 million for 7 or more gold medals.

Men's 100m Butterfly - Flying Fish Michael Phelps
Men's 100m - Lightning Bolt

Fedex still walks away from this games with a gold medal.

weeee =)

fedex crashed

OMG Federer is out of Olympics =( He's juz on a bad streak.
I think all tennis players study how to attack Federer's weakness through the years like TYS. I feel that beating him seems like a bigger deal then winning the medal.

reluctantly

I realized that most people have contacted their FYP profs while I'm still in the "don't contact him, FYP hasn't started" mode. So I finally emailed him and met for the first time since I didn't take BN3401 and have no idea how he's like. I've however heard how sucky he is and all the crappy things associated with BN3401 and BN4406. SIGH.. Anyway, our meeting was a crisps 5 mins where he basically threw me my senior's FYP report and that's it. He mentioned nothing about the lab I'll be working at or who I'll be working with =(

feasting of the hungry people

Lunch
My cousin bought a plasma TV worth $5000 from Best Denki and won a lucky draw of $25000! To spread the love, she booked 2 tables at Li Bai @ Sheraton Tower for Sunday Dim Sum =)

Dinner
My uncle will be posted to Shanghai for 3 years to be the regional director . My parents decided to organize a farewell dinner for him and hosted 2 tables at Pine Court @ Meritus Mandarin Hotel, each table adding up to over $1000. We had a private room =)

pre-school luncheon

Wl was in the mood for a nice brunch/lunch/high tea to mark the start of year 4. We thought who in SG would be so free to go for nice lunch on a weekday afternoon. Little did we realize it was Nat Day Eve and a very good day to get married and we couldn't get a table without reservations. So after jumping a few restaurants, we settled for this.

Original Sin/Mediterranean Cuisine/Vegetarian Food

I don't remember seeing 'vegetarian' when entering the restaurant. Throughout lunch, we were guessing whether they are juz stingy with their set lunch or are they truly vegetarian as there wasn't a tinge of meat in any of our dishes.

3 Veggie filled Happy ladies. Apparently if you eat too much veggie, your intestines might lengthen and it's not good. See I told you veggie isn't good.

We then stopped by this dessert place Dolci to take a glimpse at their pretty cakes. Despite how full we were, the cakes were too irresistible so we bought 1 to share. It's chocolate with passionfruit, coconut and blah blah blah.. YUMS =)

Chiew, you will totally love it. Shall go there some day.

I'm gonna glue myself to the little black box. Anything else can wait.

It's gonna be swimming and diving, followed by artistic gymnastics and then athletics. Oh and tennis too. I hope he doesn't crash out. SuperSports can then stop playing that depressing advertisement.

nithe got me addicted to this hiccup song

I'm Gonna Make A Change
For Once In My Life
It's Gonna Feel Real Good
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It Right...

As I, Turn Up The Collar On
My Favorite Winter Coat
This Wind Is Blowin' My Mind
I See The Kids In The Street
With Not Enough To Eat
Who Am I, To Be Blind?
Pretending Not To See Their Needs
A Summer's Disregard
A Broken Bottle Top
And A One Man's Soul
They Follow Each Other On
The Wind Ya' Know
'Cause They Got Nowhere To Go
That's Why I Want You To Know

I'm Starting With The Man In The Mirror
I'm Asking Him To Change His Ways
And No Message Could Have Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World A Better Place
(If You Wanna Make The World A Better Place)
Take A Look At Yourself, And Then Make A Change
(Take A Look At Yourself, And Then Make A Change)
(Na Na Na, Na Na Na, Na Na, Na Nah)

I've Been A Victim Of
A Selfish Kind Of Love
It's Time That I Realize
That There Are Some With No Home
Not A Nickel To Loan
Could It Be Really Me
Pretending That They're Not Alone?

A Willow Deeply Scarred
Somebody's Broken Heart
And A Washed-Out Dream
(Washed-Out Dream)
They Follow The Pattern Of
The Wind, Ya' See
Cause They Got No Place To Be
That's Why I'm Starting With Me
(Starting With Me!)

I'm Starting With The Man In The Mirror
(Ooh!)
I'm Asking Him To Change His Ways
(Ooh!)
And No Message Could Have Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World A Better Place
(If You Wanna Make The World A Better Place)
Take A Look At Yourself And Then Make A Change
(Take A Look At Yourself And Then Make A Change)

I'm Starting With The Man In The Mirror
(Ooh!)v I'm Asking Him To Change His Ways
(Change His Ways-Ooh!)
And No Message Could've Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World A Better Place
(If You Wanna Make The World A Better Place)
Take A Look At Yourself And Then Make That...
(Take A Look At Yourself And Then Make That...)
Change!

I'm Starting With The Man In The Mirror

I'm Asking Him To Change His Ways
(Better Change!)
No Message Could Have Been Any Clearer
(If You Wanna Make The World A Better Place)
(Take A Look At Yourself And Then Make The Change)
(You Gotta Get It Right, While You Got The Time)
('Cause When You Close Your Heart)
You Can't Close Your...Your Mind!
(Then You Close Your...Mind!)
That Man, That Man, That Man, That Man
With That Man In The Mirror
(Man In The Mirror, Oh Yeah!)
That Man, That Man, That Man
I'm Asking Him To Change His Ways

You Know...That Man
No Message Could Have Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World A Better Place
(If You Wanna Make The World A Better Place)
Take A Look At Yourself And Then Make A Change
(Take A Look At Yourself And Then Make A Change)
Hoo! Hoo! Hoo! Hoo! Hoo!
Na Na Na, Na Na Na, Na Na, Na Nah
(Oh Yeah!)
Gonna Feel Real Good Now!
Yeah Yeah! Yeah Yeah! Yeah Yeah!
Na Na Na, Na Na Na, Na Na, Na Nah
(Ooooh...)
Oh No, No No....
I'm Gonna Make A Change
It's Gonna Feel Real Good!
Come On!
(Change ...)
Just Lift Yourself
You Know
You've Got To Stop It.
Yourself!
(Yeah!-Make That Change!)
I've Got To Make That Change, Today!
Hoo!
(Man In The Mirror)
You Got To
You Got To Not Let Yourself...Brother...
Hoo!
(Yeah!-Make That Change!)
You Know-I've Got To Get That Man, That Man...
(Man In The Mirror)
You've Got To
You've Got To Move! Come On! Come On!

i'm already hating it

This is gonna be a terrible semester. Nothing has gone smoothly. Only 7 freaking TEs are offered, out of which 1 is a graduate module and 3 involve signals/programming. I have to read 3 modules (2 TEs & HR) this semester and 3 next semester (2TEs and BN3401). Tissue Engineering was an obvious choice for most people but I couldn't decide on by 2nd TE. By the time I decided to take ME4291 Finite Element Analysis in round 1C, the min. bid was 4000+ so it's out. I then considered doing EE3601 Bioinstrumentation with my EE friend but I lacked the freaking pre-req of BN3401 so it's out again. Long story short, a senior told me that BN4406 Biophotonics And Bioimaging would be useful and relevant to my FYP so despite how foreign the module sounds, I'm taking it. I haven't even started on HR. The bloody module is offered in both semesters but somehow, BIZ segments engineering students, some departments to take in sem 1 and others in sem 2. BIE happens to be in sem 2 and we are blocked from bidding. Did BIE inform us about that? No, they juz recommended us to take it in sem 2. So after countless emails, visits to dean's office, calls to relevant people from us who need to do it this sem, they gave it to us. It juz doesn't make sense for them to block year 4 students and offer it to year 3s.
The only slight consolation is that my senior did the exact same FYP topic as me so hopefully he can brief me through some stuffs and get me started.

BN4301 Principles of Tissue Engineering
BN4406 Biophotonics and Bioimaging
HR2002 Human Capital in Organizations
FYP Non-invasive optical measurement of blood glucose

All these crap will kill 3 days and I'll have the next 4 days to recuperate.

duties of a girlfriend

Since I'm no longer working and school has yet to start, I've assigned myself a new task.

Give Nithe morning call (~6.30am)
Send him to NUH (~7.10am)
Fetch him from NUH (~7pm)

He's so depressed from SIP, having to spend over 12hrs at work, night calls, weekend shifts and NEEDLES! Even though SIP only last for a month, life as HO is pretty much like that or worst and it's for the whole year.

Pre Olympics Water Polo

Some Olympics spirit to countdown to the big event. Apparently, they are here to 'acclimatize' to the weather. In what way is Singapore's air and climate the same as China?

Some last minute prep talk and 'modeling' of their bods.

I'm taking their trucks not asses k..

After the match, we GRABBED the hotties for photos! There were many more but I was shy =)

These are the average heights of their players. Average of above 2m.

18 turning 19

Celebrated Nithe's brother's 19th birthday at Shashlik after which his parents DRAGGED us to J Bar at M Hotel.

Everyone had a B52 shot. To the 3 virgin shotters.

The family of tall people.

The result of B52.
